"The secret of health for both the body and the mind is not to mourn the past or worry about the future, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly."

– Buddha

As a counselor, my role is to provide support and guidance to help individuals make positive changes in their lives. I’m ready to listen to your thoughts, fears, and concerns without judgement. I find that many times individuals already know the solution. My goal is to help you identify the barriers that are holding you back. My approach focuses on identifying past traumas that are affecting your daily life and helping you to process them.

    My Approach & Values

Danell is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor who enjoys working with individuals of all ages, especially teens, young adults, couples, individuals who have experienced trauma and loss, and individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Danell utilizes a variety of theoretical approaches but focuses on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).

Danell came to the counseling profession later in life after experiencing the sudden, traumatic death of her husband in 2016. This loss taught Danell to appreciate the profound difference support and counseling can make when one is faced with unexpected life events.

Danell is a lifelong resident of the Central Valley and was raised in Clovis. Danell received her Bachelor of Arts from California State University Fresno, with a major in Liberal Studies. Danell was an elementary school teacher for four years. Danell also spent many years working in the health insurance industry. After being widowed in 2016, Danell decided to focus on a new career where she could make a difference in the lives of others. While attending school Danell received training as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and spent several years advocating for foster youth. This experience provided a great deal of insight into social services and family issues. Danell completed her Master of Science in Professional Clinical Counseling at Grand Canyon University in 2020.

Danell is seeking her certification in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and plans to specialize in trauma therapy. EMDR is a treatment for trauma developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in 1989. Research has shown that EMDR Therapy is an effective treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and is also used for the treatment of General Anxiety, Performance Anxiety, Specific Phobias, Grief and Loss, Panic Attacks, Disturbing Thoughts or Memories, and Sexual/Physical Abuse and additional uses continue to evolve.

Danell is a mother of two adult daughters and enjoys cycling with her husband and daughters on the weekends. Danell also enjoys writing about her experience with grief and loss and has been published in The Fresno Bee and several online blogs.
