“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
-Viktor Frankl

Welcome to CVFT! My name is Carey Rivera and I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. My therapeutic approach is grounded in a holistic framework that respects and values the unique experiences of each individual and family I serve. By drawing upon a range of evidence-based modalities, I tailor interventions to address the specific needs and goals of each client, facilitating the discovery of solutions that align with their personal values. This integrative approach fosters a collaborative and client-centered environment, where individuals can explore their concerns, gain new insights, and work towards meaningful and lasting change.

My Approach & Values

Carey is a highly skilled Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, born and raised in California’s Central Valley. His upbringing fostered a deep understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultural backgrounds and unique challenges faced by individuals and families in his community. This awareness shaped his career path, leading him to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University, Stanislaus, in 2019, followed by graduating with Honors from Touro University Worldwide with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2024.

Carey brings a wealth of experience from his work as an emergency medical technician and substance abuse counselor, serving vulnerable populations. He has also provided clinical support and resources to children and families at a local nonprofit organization, where he delivered comprehensive care for at-risk youth in school settings and facilitated men’s groups focused on relationships, emotional well-being, and personal growth.

His therapeutic approach is both compassionate and client-centered, allowing him to build meaningful connections with clients while fostering a safe space for exploration and healing. Carey integrates a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, to support individuals, couples, and families in overcoming challenges and enhancing their overall quality of life.

Outside of his professional work, Carey enjoys outdoor activities, staying active through sports, and cherishes spending quality time with friends and family. He values the importance of these personal connections in promoting well-being and resilience.
