Therapy offers a powerful opportunity to explore your inner world, process emotions, and spark transformation. However, many clients tell me that a day or two after our session, they sometimes feel lost or anxious again.
To maintain the progress you’ve made in therapy, it’s essential to support your journey between sessions. Here’s what I often recommend:
Keep Your A-ha Moments Alive
Therapy can bring profound insights, and it’s important to reflect on these “A-ha moments” after your session. Think deeply about what surfaced, and take note of any additional thoughts or realizations that emerge. Keeping a dedicated notebook for these insights can be incredibly helpful, and you can share these reflections with your therapist at your next session.
Read
Ask your therapist for reading recommendations—books, blogs, or articles that can help deepen your understanding of the issues you’re working on. While reading alone won’t resolve everything, it can complement your therapy and offer fresh perspectives.
Journal
Journaling is an excellent tool for managing stress and anxiety, and studies even show it has both mental and physical health benefits. It can also help alleviate symptoms of depression, making it a powerful practice to incorporate between therapy sessions.
By focusing on these three activities, you can make the time between sessions more fulfilling and continue your personal growth.
